E3 Academy enterprise welcomed by CBI Director General as engineering graduate numbers hit crisis point
The E3 Academy, an engineering industry initiative to encourage more students to choose engineering related degree courses, was launched on Friday 16th May at the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) in London. The launch was attended by Richard Lambert, Director-General of CBI, who gave a keynote speech supportive of the work and objectives of the E3 Academy. [more...]

Shedding Light on Life - new institute to develop biological imaging techniques
Scientific questions are becoming increasingly complex — scientists and engineers must respond by spanning the traditional boundaries between disciplines in order to develop the more sophisticated tools required to conduct leading research. This is the thinking behind the new institute launched at the University of Nottingham that brings engineers, physicists, biologists and chemists together under one roof. The Institute of Biophysics Imaging and Optical Science (IBIOS) will develop novel imaging technologies using state-of-the-art equipment and use them to solve biological problems. The research could cover any biological system at any scale — from molecules to cells to whole tissue samples. [more...]
